Si deseamos personalizar un sistema como Windows XP por lo general debemos utlizar un TRANSFORMATION PACK, que es un programa PAGO que modifica cosas en nuestro sistema (lo cual puede llegar a ser peligroso). En los Entornos de ventanas de Ubuntu (en éste caso GNOME aunque existen otros como KDE, XCFE... y la lista sigue, podés elegir el que más te guste) podemos hacer la transformación del entorno de forma independiente al sistema.
Como ven en a imagen, me gusta el entorno de Apple, los icons y toda esa tonteria, pero el entorno de ubuntu (GNOME) me permite simplemente agregar temas y cambiarlos en cualquier momento SIN NECESIDAD DE INSTALAR NINGUN SOFTWARE EXTERNO.
If we wish to customize the visual aspect in systems like Windows XP, you may need a transformation pack, which is a paid program that modifies things in our system (whic can turn into a dangerous thing for the system). In the Ubuntu Envirnoments (in this case GNOME, but there are many others like KDE, XCFE. .and the list goes on, you may pick the one you like) we can change the visual look and feel of the whole environment in a way that doesn´t affect the system at all.
As you can see in the picture, I love the Apple OSX environment, you know the icons and that kind of silly things, but the ubuntu (GNOME) environment provides the capability of adding or chianging themes WHITHOUT THE NEED OF ANY EXTERNAL SOFTWARE.
Como primer paso, se debe descargar uno de los temas de GTK/MEtacity del sitio gnome-look.org, son gratuitos y descargan rápido, en mi caso elegí LEOPARDISH que deja mi ubuntu como OSX leopard.
Nota: si su entorno es KDE de ubuntu (distribución KUBUNTU) pueden pasar por kde-look.org si están usando XFCE como gestor de ventanas (distribución XUBUNTU, es una distro LIVIANA para equipos viejitos), pueden descargar temas desde xfce-look.org.
Firstly, you should download a GTK/MEtacity theme from the website gnome-look.org , which are free and are a fast download, in my case I choose LEOPARDISH, which turns my ubuntu into a more OSX Leopardish kind ob system.
Note:If you are using a KDE version of ubuntu (kubuntu distro), you may get themes from kde-look.org or if you are on a XCFE version of ubuntu (XUBUNTU DISTRO, is a ligth distro for older machines) you may get themes from the xfce-look.org website.
Como vemos el tema se compone de un paquete GTK ( le da forma a nuestros botones ) , uno de iconos (contiene iconos en varios tamaños), un paquete de punteros de mouse, y uno que transforma la barra de titulos de las ventanas para obtener esas lindas esferitas de color como botones de minimizar/maximizar/cerrar.
Nota: Si se está usando el sistema de efectos de escritorio, los temas .EMERALD son los que transforman los temas para escritorios 3D
This theme has 4 downloadable files, a GTK package (this transforms the botons and the slidebars), an icons package (has all the icons by cathegory and comes in several sizes), a mouse pointers´ theme and the one which transforms the windows titles to get those cool spherical minimize/maximize/close botons.
Note: Is you are using the desktop Effects, the themes are also packages qith the .EMERALD extension.
cuando se clickea en uno de los botones de DOWNLOAD empieza la descarga del mismo, cuando se hace click en el boton ACEPTAR.
when the DONWLOAD boton is clicked, you just have to confirm with the OK botton in the popup (the SAVE FILE option has to be enabled).
En mi caso he salvado los 4 paquetes en una capeta determinada, no importa cual, de hecho una vez instalados éstos paquetes pueden ser eliminados.
In my case, i have downloaded the 4 packages, no matter where those files are stored, actually once you have installed them in the system you may delete them.
Se debe acceder a la opción del menú SISTEMA > PREFERENCIA > APARIENCIA
Go to SYSTEM > PREFERENCES Z LOOK AND FEEL menu option.
luego para instalar los paquetes, con sólo soltarlos sobre la ventana de APARIENCIA se instalarán automáticamente.
Then, to install thos packages simply drag and drop on the Look n feel popup, this will take care of the instalation.
The popup indicates that the instalation was successfull, so you have 2 options, KEEP THE CURRENT THEME (you keep using the current one), if you click on APPLY NEW THEME, the environment will be transformed inmediatelly.
Al hacer click en PERSONALIZAR (en la ventana de APARIENCIA) podemos ajustar los pormenores de cada tema, en éste caso el BORDE DE LA VENTANA.
click on the customize boton of the Look n feel window, a popup with tabs, lets you customize many different aspects of each pert of the theme, in this case the window titles and botons.
Esta es la solapa donde podemos seleccionar los iconos que tengamos instalados en el sistema.
in the icons tab, you may pick between all the icon themes installed on the system.
En ésta solapa podemos seleccionar entre paquetes de punteros instalados, como ven el paquete SHERE_KHAN_X fué agregado correctamente.
In this tab, choose which pointer you want, as you can see the SPHERE_KHAN_X has been added correctly.
Aquí se ve el resultado de el explorador de archivos NAUTILUS (de gnome en Ubuntu), con un aspecto más metálico y "a lo leopard"..
You can see here the NAUTILUS file browser (gnome in ubuntu), with a more metalic kind and "leopardish kind of look".
Como ven, casi que éste proceso no requiere explicación, es MUY SIMPLE cambiar el aspecto gráfico de gnome en ubuntu, como ocurre en otras distribuciones también, pero escribí éstos tutoriales también para quienes usan otros sistemas (si, google analyctics dice que muchos usuarios de windows siguen éstos tutoriales) empiezan a ver comoda la forma de trabajo de ubuntu y le pierden el miedo de a poco; desgraciadamente los que usamos sistemas no convencionales como: LINUX creemos que TODO SE SOBREENTIENDE, aunque no es así, todos necesitamos ESPIAR un poco antes de animarnos a PROBAR.

You may have noticed that the process doesn´t need explanation, is very SIMPLE to change the look and feel of your gnome/ubuntu desktop, but I wrote this tutorial for the people on other systems with curiosity (yeah, google analyctics says that most of you visiting these ubuntu tutorials are behind windows boxes) and start to feel comfortable and easy the ubuntu desktop, and maybe are loosing the fear that the LINUX word may inspirate on some; unfortunately linux users like me tend to think that verything is easy to understand and obvious to anyone, but I know it´s not, so you may need to look a little bit more before install a whole new system, or even to try it on my other tutorials on the ubuntu subject:
